Single Piece vs. Two-piece
The 2010 Synergy Speed is a 1-piece bat compared to the three 2010 Stealth Speed bats which are all two piece composite bats with a rubber connector.
One piece (or single-piece) bats are usually made of metal or composite material and tend to be stiffer bats. Stiffer bats are slower to move through the strike zone, and require more power to swing, but more energy is transferred to the ball.
Two-piece bats have the barrel and the handle joined by a rubber connector in the middle and tend to be more flexible. Sometimes the handle and the barrel are both aluminum. Sometimes the handle and the barrel are both composite. And sometimes the barrel is aluminum with a composite handle.
Two-piece bats are more flexible, which means they are faster through the strike zone, but you give up a little bit of the power for the flexibility and faster bat speed.
The Stealth Speeds are rated 75 flex and the Synergy Speed is rated a 90 flex on Easton’s Flex Scale of 1-100. So for example, a lower number 75 flex is more flexible, more whippy, than a somewhat stiffer 85 flex.
